ABOUT

W. H. Stovall is the only fabricator of both glass and panels under the same roof. This allows our team to ‘marry’ the assemblies together in a controlled setting to ensure their performance as a whole assembly. We incorporate state of the art scanning and modeling into the fabrication process as part of our quality control standards.

We also are one of only a handful of fabricators in the country to have propriety assemblies exclusively engineered by our staff professionals. An industry leader in evaluating the performance of existing building envelopes, Stovall helps design value and add solutions to correct and remedy poor performance in existing exterior systems.

Stovall excels in design assist project deliveries where our team of professionals can work closely with the design engineers to help maximize the energy performance of the building envelope. When given the opportunity, our team can help design a building envelope that will pay for itself in energy savings.

Stovall is the best choice when it comes to the most complicated, demanding projects. The vast majority of our projects are for end user groups that have strict requirements associated with indoor air quality and temperature controls.

the almost 100 year history of w. h. stovall & Company

Founded in 1927 by William Harold Stovall, the company has continued to operate under the name W. H. Stovall and Company. Mr. Stovall was a manufacturers’ agent and Southern Sales Manager for Alberene Stone Company, which quarries stone at Schuyler, Virginia, “home of the Waltons”.

In 1945, the business moved to Shockoe Slip. Two years later the Company purchased an office and warehouse at 514 North 11th street, where steel and aluminum windows and door frames were warehoused.

Under the leadership of the founder, William Stovall and his son-in-law, Alvin W. Dyer, Jr. who joined the business in 1947, the business continued to grow and prosper through the years and was incorporated in 1948.

William Stovall was active in the Company throughout his life, serving as President until 1952. Over the years W. H. Stovall & Company had several other owners and became a distributor for aluminum curtain walls, windows, storefront, glass, and glazing.  Also, a Distributor Agreement was signed for Alucobond panels and W. H. Stovall & Company launched into the fabrication of Aluminum Composite Panels in 1979.

In January 1999, Bruce Cann purchased the business. Bruce was formerly involved in operations and sales of construction material and brought with him 20 years of experience in the trade.

Automation & technology was introduced to the fabrication of composite panels via the addition of a CNC router with AutoCAD programming. Stovall continues to advance its panel system design to meet the needs of more modern structures and architectural designs. The Company uses a proprietary means to attach panels with the use of its own extrusions.

In May 2022, River City Enterprises, John Epley & Tee Valentine, purchased the business. Bruce retired in December of that year with the company celebrating 95 years of service to the construction industry. Jerry Baker succeeded Bruce as President in September of 2022.

The average stovall employee has more than twenty years of experience in glass and panel installation.

Plan take-off, estimating and shop drawings are all performed in-house. The Company also engineers, field measures, fabricates, and installs all its own products, which results in a single source of responsibility. W. H. Stovall continues to be a leading Subcontractor in the glass and glazing trade with a long heritage of providing engineered products to the Central Virginia area.
